IS JESUS GOD? THE ABSOLUTE REVELATION OF THE GODHEAD
My beloved brother, my precious sister, when you stand at the crossroads of eternity and look into the open pages of the Holy Bible, there is no question more vital, no truth more foundational, and no revelation more critical to your soul’s salvation than this single, earth-shaking question: Is Jesus God?
He is not merely a second person in a trinity; He is not a junior partner in a heavenly committee; He is not a created shadow or a high-ranking angel. Jesus Christ is Jehovah of the Old Testament made visible in human flesh in the New Testament! He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last, the Almighty God manifest to redeem a fallen world!
If you are searching for truth today, if you have entered the query "Is Jesus God?" into your screen, know that your step was ordered by the Holy Ghost. The religious world is blinded by traditions, confused by creeds, and bound by ancient council dogmas that split God into three distinct persons. But in these final hours, before the Bride of Christ is caught away in the Rapture, God sent a prophet to this generation—Brother William Marrion Branham—to restore the faith once delivered unto the saints, to blow the trumpet, and to pull back the veil on the glorious revelation of the Godhead!
1. THE REVELATION OF THE ONE TRUE GOD
To understand who Jesus is, you must first throw out the pagan philosophies of Rome and Nicaea and return to the original Hebrew scriptures. What is the eternal foundational commandment given to Israel?
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD."
— Deuteronomy 6:4
Notice that Scripture does not say "our God is three persons." It says one LORD! God is a Spirit (John 4:24). He is invisible, infinite, eternal, omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. Before there was a mountain, before there was a star, before there was a speck of solar dust in the cosmos, God existed alone in His solitary majesty.
Brother William Branham taught us clearly in the sermon The Revelation of Jesus Christ:
"God is not three persons. God is ONE God. One God in three offices: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Not three Gods, but one God manifest in three attributes, three manifestations."
— William Marrion Branham (The Revelation of Jesus Christ, 1960)
Think of it! In creation, God was the Father, dwelling above His people in a Pillar of Cloud and Fire—unapproachable and holy. In redemption, that same God condescended to manifest Himself in human flesh as the Son, walking among us, suffering, bleeding, and dying for our sins. In sanctification, that exact same God came down on the day of Pentecost as the Holy Ghost, indwelling the hearts of His believers!
It is not three separate people named Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Those are three titles belonging to ONE Name!
When Jesus commanded His disciples in Matthew 28:19 to "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost," notice the singular word: NAME—not "names"!
What is the single name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost? Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost on the Day of Pentecost, had the true revelation when he declared:
"Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
— Acts 2:38
Peter did not disobey Jesus; he revealed Jesus! The Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is the Lord Jesus Christ!
2. GOD MANIFEST IN THE FLESH: THE INCARNATION
How could the infinite God dwell inside a human body? This is the great mystery of godliness that the Apostle Paul wrote about under the inspiration of the Spirit:
"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
— 1 Timothy 3:16
Notice Paul did not say "a second person of God was manifest." He said GOD was manifest in the flesh!
Jesus was not just an ordinary man who was elevated to divine status. He was the virgin-born Tabernacle in which the entirety of the Divine Creator took up residency! The blood that flowed in Mary’s womb was not derived from fallen human seed; it was a special, virgin creation of the Holy Ghost! God created a clean blood cell, placed it in Mary’s body, and formed the fleshly body of the Lord Jesus Christ.
"Jehovah of the Old Testament was Jesus of the New Testament. Jesus was God made flesh... God built Himself a body called Jesus, and dwelt in that body."
— William Marrion Branham (The Deity of Jesus Christ, 1949)
When you looked at Jesus walking the dusty roads of Galilee, what were you looking at? You were looking at a physical man who felt hunger, thirst, and fatigue in His human nature, but whose inner Spirit was the self-same God who created the heavens and the earth!
- When He wept at the grave of Lazarus, His human heart was sorrowful. But when He stood up and shouted, "Lazarus, come forth!" and a dead man stepped out of the tomb after four days of decay—that wasn't a mere prophet, that was God Almighty speaking light into darkness!
- When He slept peacefully in the back of the storm-tossed boat, His physical body was weary. But when He stood up on the deck and rebuked the winds and the waves, saying, "Peace, be still!" and the sea flattened out like a mirror—that was the Creator of the atmosphere exercising sovereignty over His creation!
3. OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES IDENTIFYING JESUS AS GOD
Let the Old Testament prophets settle this argument forever! Centuries before the birth of Christ in Bethlehem, the Holy Spirit inspired Isaiah to lay down the absolute identity of the coming Messiah.
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
— Isaiah 9:6
Look at those titles! The child born in Bethlehem, the Son given to humanity, is explicitly named "The mighty God" and "The everlasting Father"! How can anyone read Isaiah 9:6 and claim Jesus is not God? He is the Father made visible!
Consider also Isaiah’s prophecy regarding the virgin birth:
"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
— Isaiah 7:14
Matthew interprets this under divine inspiration:
"Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
— Matthew 1:22-23
When Jesus walked among men, He was not "God next to us." He was not "God beneath us." He was GOD WITH US!
Brother Branham constantly pointed out how Jehovah revealed His redemptive names throughout the Old Testament:
- Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord will provide.
- Jehovah-Rapha: The Lord that healeth thee.
- Jehovah-Nissi: The Lord our banner.
- Jehovah-Shalom: The Lord our peace.
Every single one of these redemptive titles was completely fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ! He is our Provider, our Healer, our Banner, our Peace, and our Righteousness.
4. JESUS CLAIMS HIS OWN DEITY
There are those in the modern world who foolishly assert, "Jesus never claimed to be God." That is a lie straight from the pit of hell! Jesus repeatedly asserted His eternal, divine identity, so much so that the religious leaders of His day took up stones to kill Him for what they called "blasphemy."
Look at His interaction with Philip in John Chapter 14. Philip said to Him: "Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us."
Listen to Jesus’ reply. If Jesus were a separate person from the Father, He would have said, "I cannot show you the Father, He is sitting next to me on a second throne." But what did the Master say?
"Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?"
— John 14:9
Jesus looked Philip straight in the eye and revealed the truth: If you are looking at Me, you are looking at the Father!
In John 10:30, Jesus plainly declared:
"I and my Father are one."
— John 10:30
Not one in agreement like a husband and wife, but ONE IN BEING! The Jews understood exactly what He meant, which is why verse 31 says: "Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him." When Jesus asked them why they were stoning Him, they answered in verse 33: "For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God."
Consider His encounter with the Pharisees in John 8:56-58:
"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
— John 8:56-58
When Jesus used the phrase "I AM," He was referencing the exact name that Almighty God spoke to Moses out of the burning bush in Exodus 3:14: "Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Jesus was identifying Himself as the very God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!
5. THE END-TIME PROPHETIC REVELATION OF THE GODHEAD
Why is this revelation so vital for us today? Because in these last days, as foretold in Malachi 4:5-6 and Revelation 10:7, God restored the true Word to the Bride. Prophet William Marrion Branham was sent to pull back the layers of denominational tradition that had blinded the church during the Dark Ages.
Brother Branham warned against the subtle trick of the enemy to dilute the identity of Jesus Christ:
"If Jesus is not God, He's the greatest deceiver the world ever had. He was either God or a deceiver... Jesus was God, nothing less than God, manifest in the flesh to take away the sin of the world."
— William Marrion Branham (The Unpardonable Sin, 1954)
Look at the book of Revelation, the final book of the Bible! When John was on the Isle of Patmos, caught up in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, he heard a great voice behind him like a trumpet. When he turned to see the voice that spoke with him, who did he see?
"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."
— Revelation 1:8
"And I turned to see the voice that spake with me... And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
— Revelation 1:18
John did not see three thrones in Heaven. In Revelation 4:2, John declares: "And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and ONE sat on the throne." Not two, not three—ONE!
That One sitting on the throne is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Lamb that was slain, the God of all creation!
6. WHY YOUR SALVATION DEPENDS ON THIS TRUTH
My friend, this is not just a theological debate. This is a matter of life and death! Your eternal destiny hinges on who you believe Jesus Christ is.
Jesus Himself warned in John 8:24:
"I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins."
— John 8:24
If you do not believe that Jesus is HE—the Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Almighty God manifest in the flesh—you are still in your sins!
A mere man could not redeem you. An angel could not redeem you. It took the precious, sinless blood of God Himself to pay the price for human redemption! As Acts 20:28 clearly says, God "purchased the church with his own blood."
